The Importance of Homework in the Learning Process at the Freedom Youth Academy

On the internet there are over 3,540,000 links that provide information on the Importance of Homework. Educational experts reveal that homework is a valuable instructional tool and research clearly shows that students who successfully complete homework achieve greater academic success in school. Studies also show that students achieve academic success more consistently when parents/guardians/tutors are involved in their childs education. Research further indicates that students who conscientiously do their homework perform better academically at each level of educational progression. Students learn to follow directions, as well as, to organize assignments while managing their time wisely. They also learn to work independently, locate pertinent information, and to use appropriate resources for their assignments. There are many benefits associated with homework which may result in both short term objectives and long term goals. They are as follows:
*An immediate impact on the retention and understanding of the material covered.
*The easing of time constraints on the amount of curricular material that can be covered in class.
*An opportunity for parents to monitor how their children are doing in school.
*Improvement of students study skills and their attitude toward school.
*The realization that learning occurs everywhere not just at school.
*The development of student initiative, independence, and sense of responsibility.
*The ability of parents to learn about their childs education, the progress they are making, and the nature of the school curriculum.
*Opportunities to encourage and compliment children on their achievements.
*The opportunity of a life-long learning process.
*Opportunities for parents to communicate that education has a high priority. *Opportunities for students to become more independent problem solvers.
Students, teachers, tutors, and parents must realize that the keys to the successful learning process are well-defined partnerships and relationships that can nurture the development of the whole child through a commitment to education that is provided by the staff at the Freedom Youth Academy.
